In a devastating turn of events, Israeli air raids have reportedly claimed the lives of at least 2,329 Palestinians in Gaza, leaving 9,714 others wounded, according to the territory’s health ministry. As tensions continue to soar, an Israeli army spokesperson has issued renewed orders for Palestinians in the northern region of Gaza, home to approximately 1.1 million people, to evacuate southward for their own safety.
Jonathan Conricus, the Israeli army spokesperson, took to social media to emphasise the importance of heeding the warnings, urging residents of northern Gaza, Gaza City, and surrounding areas to relocate. “Go south, listen to our warnings,” Conricus stated in a video message released at 7 am local time on Sunday. He further emphasised the expectation of significant military activities in the area.
Conricus also addressed an incident on Saturday, denying Israeli involvement in an attack on a convoy of civilians fleeing towards the south, which tragically led to numerous casualties. “It may have been some kind of a freak accident,” he expressed, seeking to distance Israel from the incident.
Demonstrating unwavering support for Israel, the United States has deployed a second aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean. This move serves as a visible display of solidarity and commitment to the nation as Israeli forces persistently bombard the Gaza Strip with missiles launched from jet fighters and artillery fire from land and sea.
Meanwhile, amidst the escalating violence, a growing number of people within Gaza are fleeing southward, responding to Israel’s intensifying warnings of a potential ground invasion. The Israeli military has announced preparations for a comprehensive offensive involving air, land, and sea operations against Gaza.
Reports have emerged of Israeli air raids targeting the southern city of Khan Younis, including attacks on medical facilities and a pharmaceutical warehouse. Tragically, the toll of the past week’s Israeli air attacks on Gaza stands at a staggering 2,215 Palestinians killed and 8,714 injured. Heartbreakingly, this includes over 700 Palestinian children. In the occupied West Bank, Israeli fire has claimed the lives of over 50 Palestinians in a matter of days. In Israel, the death toll currently stands at approximately 1,300, with over 3,400 individuals wounded since the initial attack by Hamas last weekend.
Amidst these distressing developments, US President Joe Biden faced a pro-Palestinian protester’s heckling during a Gala event in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, thousands of individuals have taken to the streets in cities across the globe, marching in solidarity with Gaza and calling for an end to the violence.
