Emergency services are currently at Dublin Airport after 12 people were injured on a Qatar Airways flight due to severe turbulence. The incident occurred on Sunday, 26 May 2024, at approximately 2:22pm.
The turbulence hit Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha to Dublin as it flew over Turkey, injuring six passengers and six crew members.
Graeme McQueen, Media Relations Manager at DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport confirmed: “Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha landed safely as scheduled at Dublin Airport shortly before 13:00 on Sunday. Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue department, due to six passengers and six crew [12 total] on board reporting injuries after the aircraft experienced turbulence while airborne over Turkey. The Dublin Airport team continues to provide full assistance on the ground to passengers and airline staff.
The incident comes just a week after a British man died on a flight from Heathrow to Singapore following extreme turbulence, highlighting the dangers of such in-flight events.
All injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention, and Dublin Airport authorities are working closely with Qatar Airways to manage the situation and ensure the safety and comfort of all affected passengers and crew
