Emergency services rushed to Newham General Hospital in Plaistow, London, on Thursday evening after reports of a strong smell of an unknown chemical in the  Accident & Emergency department.

The alarm was raised just before 8PM on February 27, prompting a swift response from fire crews, police, and hazardous material specialists.

Hospital Area Evacuated for Safety

As a precaution, authorities ordered the evacuation of the affected area while emergency personnel assessed the situation.

Specialist units, including hazardous materials teams, were deployed to determine the nature of the substance. Patients and medical staff were moved to other parts of the hospital to prevent any potential exposure.

London Ambulance Service confirmed that medical teams were on standby, but no patients have required emergency treatment related to the incident.

Authorities are currently investigating the source of the smell and whether any hazardous substances were involved.
