Elderly Woman Dies in House Fire in Erith

An 86-year-old woman has tragically died following a house fire in Erith.

Incident Details

  • Emergency services were called at 5.45 PM on Saturday, 11 January, to reports of a fire at a mid-terraced house in Mill Road, near Brook Street.
  • The ground floor of the house was damaged by the blaze.
  • London Fire Brigade (LFB), Metropolitan Police, and London Ambulance Service (LAS) all attended the scene.
  • Upon arrival, firefighters found the elderly woman inside the property. Despite efforts from emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Her next of kin have been informed, but formal identification has yet to take place.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigators from London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

A spokesperson said:

“Police are investigating after an elderly woman was found dead following a fire at a house in Erith.
Officers were called at 5.45 PM on Saturday, 11 January, and attended the scene at Mill Road, Erith, with London Fire Brigade.
Part of the ground floor of a mid-terraced house had been damaged by fire. Sadly, an 86-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed, but she has yet to be formally identified. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.”

London Ambulance Service (LAS)

A spokesperson for LAS added:

“We were called at 5.39 PM on Saturday, 11 January, to reports of a fire in Mill Road, Erith.
We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
The first of our crews arrived within six minutes.
Our crews treated a woman at the scene. Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency responders, she died.”

London Fire Brigade has been contacted for further details regarding the cause of the fire.
