An elderly man is in hospital with serious leg injuries following a crash involving a car on Station Lane in Hornchurch. The incident occurred shortly before 9am and prompted a large emergency response.
What Happened?
Emergency services were called to the scene at 8:44am on Thursday, May 22, after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. The victim, a man in his 80s, was treated at the scene before being rushed to a major trauma centre by the London Ambulance Service.
Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is assisting with inquiries.
“We treated an elderly patient at the scene for a leg injury and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.
Road Closures and Travel Disruption
Station Lane was closed in both directions between Kenilworth Gardens and Suttons Avenue, causing disruption near Hornchurch Station. Bus routes 193, 252, and 256 were diverted during the closure. The road was reopened shortly before 2pm.
Police Statement
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his leg. The car involved stopped at the scene.”
