Edmonton ‘Hit and Run’ Victim’s Sister Pays Heartbreaking Tribute to “Angel in Disguise” Killed in Tragic Crash

A devastating alleged hit-and-run incident in North London has left a family shattered and a community in mourning as they remember a beloved woman and her two dogs. On Tuesday evening, January 9, 28-year-old Laura Sone-Demetrious tragically lost her life after being struck by a car on the A10 in Edmonton.

Emergency services, including the police and paramedics, rushed to the scene at 7:20 pm, but despite their efforts, Laura and her two dogs could not be saved, and she tragically passed away at the accident site. A 17-year-old boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and for allegedly failing to stop at the scene of the collision. He has been released on bail and is expected to appear in court in mid-February.

Laura’s devastated sister, Gina Sone-Demetrious, aged 24, spoke of the immense pain she has been enduring since losing her sister, whom she considered a role model. “I can’t close my eyes now, as all I see is her,” Gina shared with MyLondon. She continued, “I’ll miss everything about Laura. Her smile, the way she laughs, and even annoying her. I can’t believe that I’ll never see her again.”

Laura, who also had another sister and a brother, resided in a flat near the A10 but generally chose to walk her dogs in the local estate rather than along the main road. The family was informed of her tragic death at 2:30 am on Wednesday, January 10, after police utilized the dogs’ pet tags to identify her.

Recalling the heart-wrenching moment she learned of her sister’s fate, Gina described being awakened by the sound of her mother’s screams and pounding on her bedroom door when the police arrived at their home in Enfield. Gina said, “I saw my mum’s reaction, and I knew something was wrong. Right away, she said: ‘Get up, we have police here. They’re saying Laura has been killed.’ I was crying my eyes out and could barely eat or sleep. You could never expect this to happen to your family, especially my older sister who I looked up to and who protected me. It’s so traumatic.”

Laura Sone-Demetrious was known for her caring and warm personality, described by her sister Gina as an “angel in disguise.” Laura was not only an avid cook and baker but also extended her helping hand to friends facing problems in their marriages and relationships.

In response to this heartbreaking tragedy, Laura’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses and provide her with a proper farewell, while also raising awareness of the incident. Detectives are actively seeking information from the public, including any dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts of the incident.
