Fans of EastEnders have been left puzzled after today’s episode failed to appear on BBC iPlayer this morning.
The BBC confirmed that the soap’s early release has been axed for Wednesday, meaning the episode will only be available to watch at the same time it airs on BBC One at 7.30pm.
Normally, episodes are uploaded to iPlayer at 6am on the day of broadcast, but this week’s schedule has been altered to coincide with the dramatic return of Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan).
BBC statement
On X, formerly Twitter, the official @bbceastenders account wrote:
“On Wednesday 3rd September, EastEnders will simulcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC One at 1930, as secrets of Zoe’s past come to the fore during her explosive return to Walford which sends shockwaves through the Slaters and Walford.”
Fan reaction
The news has divided viewers. Many said they were “excited” for Zoe’s comeback, with speculation mounting that she could be Joel Marshall’s (Max Murray) mother — a theory fuelling lively debate online.
One fan posted: “Zoe is definitely Joel’s mum – all the clues have been there. This is about to get explosive.”
Another added: “Please don’t make her Joel’s mum! It’s Soapland, but that’s too much of a coincidence.”
Episode teaser
According to the Radio Times, Wednesday’s storyline unfolds during Patrick and Yolande’s wedding reception, where celebrations take a dark turn after a shooting is revealed and “a life hangs in the balance.”
Normal schedule resumes
The BBC confirmed that Thursday’s episode (4 September) will return to the usual 6am early release on iPlayer.
