East London Murder Conviction: Two Men Found Guilty After Eight Years – UKNIP

After eight years of relentless police work, two men have finally been convicted for the brutal murder of Ahmed Deen-Jah in East London. Lekan Akinsoji and Sundjata Keita, both 27, were found guilty at the Old Bailey following a four-week trial.

Cold Case Cracked: How Police Cracked the Murder

The murder happened back in April 2017 when 24-year-old Ahmed was stabbed during an unprovoked attack in a Newham convenience store. Originally arrested within days, both suspects were released due to lack of evidence. But a 2023 review reignited the case.

  • Detailed phone analysis placed Keita’s phone in the getaway car.
  • The stolen car was spotted heading to Epping Forest, where it was later set on fire.
  • Forensic evidence linked Keita to the knife sheath and DNA on the victim.

Courtroom Drama: Gang Violence Motive Revealed

The trial uncovered that the murder was a “tit for tat” gang-related attack. CCTV footage showed the two men stalking Ahmed, who they didn’t know, before stabbing him in cold blood. The men were driving around in a stolen car, hunting rival gang members.

Justice Delivered: Family and Police React

“Eight years on from Ahmed’s vicious murder, today his family finally have the justice they deserve,” said Detective Superintendent Kelly Allen. “Akinsoji and Keita thought they had got away with it, but thanks to persistent police work, they will now face the consequences.”

Ahmed’s father expressed he was “overwhelmed with relief” and thanked officers for their hard work. Akinsoji and Keita are due for sentencing at the Old Bailey on 24 October.

This case underlines the Met Police’s commitment to revisiting cold cases and holding violent offenders to account, ensuring justice for victims and their families.
