Drug charges have been authorised against a man who was stopped by officers for a traffic offence
A suspect has been remanded in custody following allegations he repeatedly stamped on a man’s head in Maidstone

At 10.26pm on Sunday 17 September 2023 patrolling officers requested a motorist to stop in Strood due to a traffic offence.

However, when the driver stopped the car officers had suspicion to believe there were drugs inside the vehicle.

They carried out a search of the car under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found between 30 and 40 deal bags hidden inside a larger bag. A large quantity of cash was also seized.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs.

Joshua Penfold, 19, of Church Street, Hoo, has been charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine, acquiring criminal property and possession with intent to supply ketamine.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 19 September where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 17 October.
