Fatal Police Chase Ends in Horror Crash
A reckless driver has been locked up for 12 years after smashing into a woman’s car at over 140mph on Christmas Day. Evan Forde, 32, was fleeing the police in his Mercedes when he slammed into the back of Maria Carolina Do Nascimento’s BMW in Brent Cross, North London.
The 22-year-old victim tragically died at the scene. Forde’s high-speed rampage shocked the court and the community alike.
Court Hears Shocking Details of Chase
The Old Bailey was told Forde ignored police signals to stop and sped off, dragging an officer several feet with the car door handle in hand before disappearing at terrifying speeds on a 40mph street. Despite officers not pursuing, bodycam footage revealed the officer’s desperate attempt to stop the vehicle.
Forde, who had 10 previous convictions including dangerous driving and was on bail for failing to provide a specimen, fled with passengers after the crash, leaving Maria dying on the road.
Judge Slams Driver’s Callous Actions
“He did absolutely nothing to assist the police. He did absolutely nothing to bring closure or understanding to the family,” Judge Philip Katz KC told the court.
Alongside his jail term, Forde received an 18-year driving ban for the deadly spree.
