In a devastating turn of events, two separate road traffic collisions have resulted in the loss of two lives, one in Co Louth and the other in Co Limerick.
The first incident occurred in Castletroy, Co Limerick, where a male pedestrian lost his life after being involved in a collision with two cars. The distressing crash took place yesterday at approximately 21.50 on the Dublin Road. It is disheartening to note that one of the drivers involved failed to remain at the scene, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
The pedestrian was swiftly transported to University Hospital Limerick, where medical professionals fought tirelessly to save his life. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
In the same incident, a male driver in his 40s and a female passenger from the second car sustained injuries, fortunately believed to be non-life-threatening. They were both promptly admitted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment and care.
As investigations continue, Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently conducting a thorough examination at the scene of the collision. To facilitate this process, Dublin Road, from the junction of the Groody Roundabout to the junction of the Golf Links Road, remains closed. Local diversions have been put in place to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

The harrowing crash occurred around 02.00 on the M1 Northbound, specifically between Junctions 12 and 14 at Mooremont. Tragically, a male passenger of the car involved lost his life at the scene.
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, tending to the two other male occupants of the car, aged in their 20s and 60s. Both individuals were promptly transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to receive medical attention for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
To facilitate a comprehensive investigation, Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct a technical examination at the crash site. As a result, M1 Northbound lanes before Junction 13 are currently closed, while M1 Southbound lanes remain open.
