Detectives Seek Assistance in Elderly Shopper Theft Cases in Liscard and Huyton

Merseyside Police have intensified their search for two women potentially linked to a series of thefts targeting elderly shoppers at Iceland supermarkets in Liscard and Huyton. With the release of CCTV images, authorities hope to gain crucial information that may lead to the resolution of these distressing incidents.

Details of the Thefts

  • First Incident (Huyton): Occurred on Thursday, 23 November. A 75-year-old woman withdrew money from Huyton Post Office, then visited Iceland on Montgomery Road. During her shopping, she was distracted by one suspect, while another stole her purse from her handbag.
  • Second Incident (Liscard): This happened on Wednesday, 29 November, at around 10:15 am. A 90-year-old woman, after withdrawing money from Lloyds Bank, entered the Iceland store on Liscard Way. While at the checkout, she discovered her purse, passport, sunglasses, and other personal items were missing.

Investigation and CCTV Footage

Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have led detectives to believe that the two thefts are interconnected, and the suspects are likely acquainted. The released CCTV images feature two women who detectives think could be crucial in furthering the investigation.

Detective Constable Chloe Browne highlighted the distressing nature of these crimes, condemning the targeting of vulnerable individuals for personal gain. She described the thefts as “callous and despicable” and emphasized the importance of apprehending the culprits to prevent future incidents.
