Detectives Appeal For Information Following Violent Attempted Burglary In Oldham

Detectives in Oldham are urgently appealing for information from the public in connection with a violent attempted burglary that unfolded in the early hours of Friday, September 22, 2023. The incident occurred at approximately 02:00 BST on Ashton Road in Hathershaw, where the Honeywell Arms establishment was targeted. During the break-in, a man and a woman, the victims in this harrowing incident, were subjected to a terrifying attack.

It is believed that two male suspects, whose identities remain unknown, gained entry to the premises without using force. They reportedly entered the building through a first-floor window, evading detection until the intrusion woke the unsuspecting victims.

As the victims were startled by the intruders, a confrontation ensued, resulting in a physical altercation. Tragically, the female victim sustained a facial injury during the altercation and subsequently received medical treatment at a local hospital. Thankfully, the male victim did not suffer any serious injuries.

Detective Sergeant Matt Adshead, who serves in GMP’s Oldham district, expressed his shock and concern regarding the incident. He stated, “This is a shocking incident where two people have been asleep in their own quarters before being startled in distressing circumstances.”

Detective Sergeant Adshead emphasised that while the investigation is still ongoing, all available leads are being actively pursued. Initial findings suggest that the attack may have been targeted.

He further asserted, “We are committed to finding those responsible to bring them to justice and ensure we can keep the local community safe and supported.”

Authorities are urging anyone who may possess information or details related to this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. Concerned individuals can contact officers with confidence by dialling 0161 856 4521 or the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, those who wish to maintain their anonymity can provide information through the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. When reaching out, please reference incident number 259 of 22/09/2023.
