Derelict Building Fire in Herne Bay Brought Under Control
Chemical Leak Scare Leads to Evacuation of 450 People from Mitcham School

Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a fire in a derelict building located on Owls Hatch Road in Herne Bay today. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene, where crews swiftly initiated firefighting operations. Equipped with breathing apparatus, hydraulic cutters, and spreaders, the firefighters gained access to the building to combat the blaze. Additionally, thermal imaging cameras, a 7-meter ladder, and other essential tools were utilized during the operation. Hose reel jets were employed to extinguish the fire.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation by local authorities.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.

The swift response and coordinated efforts of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service personnel were instrumental in bringing the fire under control and preventing its spread to adjacent properties. Firefighters are committed to safeguarding the community and maintaining public safety in such situations.
