A mosque leader from Newham has been locked up for terrorising four children with sexual abuse spanning nearly ten years.
Decade of Abuse Comes to Light
Qari Sher Mohammad, 61, from england/Woodfordwoodford/”>Woodford Road, forest-gate/”>Forest Gate, targeted young victims between 2014 and 2023. He first came under suspicion in 2018 after one victim bravely reported him to the police. The abuse took place while Mohammad was fulfilling his duties at a mosque in Chatham, kent-england/”>Kent.
Despite an arrest in 2018, Mohammad was initially not charged due to the potential trauma to the victim. However, fresh allegations surfaced between May 2022 and December 2023 involving three more children, prompting a new investigation and his arrest on December 11, 2023.
Convicted and Sentenced
Mohammad denied all charges but was convicted at Canterbury Crown Court on 7 March 2025, found guilty on 16 counts of sexual touching of a child. On 12 September 2025, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In addition, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order will restrict him for five years after release.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage
