Currently, the right-hand tunnel has been completely shut down, reducing traffic flow to just two lanes out of the usual four.

In contrast, the left-hand tunnel, albeit slightly smaller with a height of 4.8 meters, remains operational.

The ramifications of the closure are being keenly felt, with queues already extending back to J1a for Dartford and the Darenth Interchange.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible or to anticipate significant delays if travelling through the Dartford Crossing area.

Authorities are working diligently to resolve the situation and reopen the affected tunnel as soon as it is safe to do so.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
