Crawley Arson Charges: Merritt Faces Court Hearing

A man faces charges after an intentional fire outbreak in Crawley.

In the early hours of Friday, 15 March, Crawley police responded to a disturbance at a Yew Court apartment on Springfield Road. The incident led to an evacuation due to a fire, believed to have been set intentionally, affecting residents who have now safely returned home.

Additionally, property damage ensued as items were hurled from an apartment window, impacting several vehicles.

Clint Merritt, 44, from Lowfield Road, Slinford, has been apprehended and charged with arson intending to endanger life, engaging in affray, and committing three counts of criminal damage.

Currently held in custody, Merritt awaits a plea hearing scheduled for 15 April, where he will appear in court.
