Coastguard rescue helicopter called for Guernsey life saving mission

A Coastguard search and Rescue Helicopter has this evening carried out a life saving medical evacuation from the Island of Guernsey. The twin-engine helicopter (Rescue 175 ) based at Lee on the Solent was scrambled just after 10pm on Friday evening. The four crew were tasked to transfer a seriously ill person from the Channel Island to Southampton General Hospital. It is understood that the transfer took place just after 11.45pm from the Guernsey Hospital to the helicopter for an onward transfer to Southampton General on route the helicopter flew over the Isle of Wight before being met at the hospital helipad site by Nursing staff and members of the Southampton and Hillhead coastguard search and rescue team. The medical evacuation was overseen by staff from the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) at Fareham.
