A dramatic road traffic collision occurred last night on Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon, where a car overturned, raising initial fears that a child was still trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency services were called to the scene at just after 9pm on 15 September 2024.
The incident, which happened near Ashburton, involved a car flipping over after colliding with a parked van. Neighbours rushed out to assist, but according to eyewitnesses, the female driver quickly removed a child from the car before fleeing the scene. She was seen getting into another vehicle driven by an accomplice.
A resident, who shared the details stated, “The crash happened outside our house, and it was a huge bang. The neighbours ran to help, but she acted quickly to leave the area. A bus captured the entire incident, including the other vehicle’s registration number.”
Police and emergency services responded to the scene, and while the child is believed to have escaped serious injury, the condition of the driver remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and CCTV footage from nearby buses is expected to assist in identifying the second vehicle involved.
No arrests have been made yet, and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
