The iconic tram shelters in Brighton, dating back to around 1926 and designed by the then Borough Engineer, David Edwards, have recently fallen victim to vandalism. These Grade 2 listed structures, along with the famous tram shelter and public toilets on Old Steine, which now operates as a cafe, are esteemed pieces of Brighton’s architectural heritage.

While trams ceased operations in September 1939, the shelters have since been repurposed to serve as bus shelters, maintaining their historical significance. In preparation for the upcoming summer season, Brighton and Hove Council has undertaken maintenance work on the shelters over the past few days, including cleaning and painting.

However, within hours of the completion of the maintenance work, graffiti taggers struck, defacing the freshly painted shelters with spray cans.
