In a swift response to reports of suspicious activities at retail parks in Tonbridge, neighbourhood officers successfully apprehended two suspected bulk shoplifters on Monday, March 18, 2024. The constables, patrolling the area, intercepted a vehicle in Cannon Lane and searched, leading to the discovery of substantial quantities of food and perfume. Subsequently, both men occupying the vehicle were detained.

The suspects, identified as Gary Bartrup of Marlescroft Way, Loughton, Essex, and Peter Tough of Burden Way, Aldersbrook, Greater London, were later charged by investigators from the Tonbridge Victim Based Crime Team. The charges primarily relate to the theft of multiple meat products from Food Warehouse.

In addition to the theft from Food Warehouse, Mr. Tough, 62, faces further charges. These include the theft of bike chains from Halfords in Cannon Lane, with an estimated value exceeding £140. Moreover, he stands accused of pilfering alcohol and food from a petrol station in Chelmsford, Essex, amounting to £335, on January 25.
