Brixton Man Jailed for Non-Consensual Condom Removal in Landmark Legal Case

A Met-led investigation has resulted in the conviction of Guy Mukendi, 39, from Brixton, who was found guilty of taking off a condom during sex without consent. The incident, sometimes referred to as ‘stealthing,’ is classified as rape under English and Welsh law. Mukendi was sentenced today (June 13) to four years and three months in prison.

On May 9, 2023, Met officers swiftly responded to a sexual assault report made by a young woman in Brixton. The victim had consented to sex with Mukendi on the condition that a condom was used. However, during the encounter, Mukendi secretly removed the condom without her knowledge.

From the outset, officers supported the victim during this challenging time. Throughout the investigation and court proceedings, a specialist officer provided ongoing assistance, connecting the victim with expert charities like Rape Crisis and Survivors Gateway.

Local Brixton officers obtained a detailed statement from the victim and began investigating Mukendi. They analysed text exchanges and forensic evidence, leading to this groundbreaking case. The Met’s commitment to focusing on suspects in crimes disproportionately affecting women and girls underscores the significance of this conviction.

Screenshots of messages from Mukendi, in which he apologised for removing the condom due to a lack of recent sexual activity, played a crucial role in securing his conviction. Detective Constable Jack Earl, who led the investigation, emphasised the importance of raising awareness about this form of rape.

Earl stated, “The victim’s bravery in reporting the incident promptly should not be overlooked. If you’ve experienced sexual violence, please contact your local police service to seek justice.” Victims of non-consensual condom removal should report it immediately by calling 101 or using the online reporting system. In emergencies, dial 999.

As part of its commitment to improving victim services and protecting women and girls, the Met collaborates closely with expert charities like Survivors Gateway. Kate Holmes, Head of Sexual Violence Helplines at Survivors Gateway, encourages survivors in London to seek support by calling 0808 801 0860. Navigators provide confidential, non-judgmental spaces and can refer individuals for counselling and practical advocacy support.
