15-Year-Old Nabbed After Midnight Assault

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a brutal hammer attack on High Street, Melksham, just after midnight on Saturday (18 October).

The victim, a man who suffered serious injuries, was attacked during a disturbance involving two masked men dressed in black and riding bicycles.

Police Seal Off Melksham Streets for Forensics

Bank Street and High Street were cordoned off for forensic work overnight. The cordon was lifted by the afternoon as police continued their investigation.

Wiltshire Police confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is currently on bail as enquiries continue. The second attacker remains at large.

Victim Recovering, Police Hunt Second Suspect

The victim has been discharged from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

“This incident and the large police presence in the town will have undoubtedly caused concern for many residents. I would like to assure you that we believe this was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the wider public,” said Detective Chief Inspector Penny Andrews.

“Enquiries to trace the outstanding suspect are progressing and I would appeal to any witnesses to please come forward. We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage or who saw two males in dark clothing cycling around the town just before the attack.”
