NCA Investigation Launched After Firearms and Drugs Seized at Dover Port

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched an urgent investigation after a cache of firearms and drugs was discovered inside a vehicle entering the UK from France at Dover Port.

Border Force Officers Make Major Seizure

On Monday, 24 February, Border Force officers stopped and searched an SUV as it arrived at Dover Port. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 13 firearms, including Skorpion submachine guns, pistols, and other weapons, hidden in a custom-built compartment within the footwell.

Alongside the weapons, officers found 300 rounds of ammunition and five kilograms of heroin. The drugs have an estimated street value of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Ongoing Investigation and Arrest

The NCA has confirmed that forensic tests are being conducted to classify the seized weapons and determine if they are viable.

Following the discovery, 39-year-old Kasha Sanderson, of Wick, Bristol, was arrested and charged with the importation of firearms, ammunition, and Class A drugs.

He appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 25 February, where he was remanded in custody pending further court proceedings.

NCA’s Response to the Seizure

An NCA spokesperson described the seizure as a significant blow to the illegal arms trade and drug smuggling networks attempting to bring deadly weapons and drugs into the UK.

This seizure demonstrates the continued threat posed by criminal groups attempting to smuggle illegal firearms and drugs into the country. The NCA remains committed to tackling the trafficking of weapons that fuel violence on our streets,” the spokesperson added.

Weapons and Drug Smuggling Threat

The seizure highlights the increasing use of concealed compartments in vehicles by organised crime groups to smuggle firearms, ammunition, and drugs across borders.

Authorities have warned that firearms like Skorpion submachine guns are highly sought after by gangs due to their compact size and rapid rate of fire, making them a deadly weapon in the hands of criminals.

Further Court Proceedings

Sanderson remains in custody and is expected to appear at Crown Court in the coming weeks as investigations continue.

The NCA is now working closely with Border Force, Kent Police, and international law enforcement agencies to track the origins of the firearms and dismantle the networks behind the smuggling operation.
