A secondary school pupil sparked a bomb scare after suspicious items were found at his family home in Monkseaton, North Tyneside. The bomb disposal team was called in following a police raid on Friday afternoon.
Bomb Squad Called to Monkseaton Home
Police swooped on the property shortly after 1.15pm after receiving reports of suspicious activity. During their enquiries, officers uncovered suspect items that prompted the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to attend the scene for a full sweep.
Forensic investigators were later seen carrying out detailed checks at the address.
Schoolboy Charged and Set for Court Appearance
The boy, described as white British and of secondary school age, was arrested at the scene. A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed he has been charged with possession of an explosive substance.
He is due to appear at Bedlington Magistrates Court this Monday.
Police Stress No Public Danger
“There is no risk to the wider public,” said a police spokesman.
Northumbria Police urged the public to avoid speculation as the case progresses. The incident has raised alarm but authorities assure the community that safety is their priority.
