The bodybuilding community is mourning the loss of Hayley McNeff, a former competition champion and fitness influencer, who has died unexpectedly at the age of 37.
McNeff passed away peacefully on August 8, her family confirmed in an obituary, describing her as a “bright light” who “left the world too soon.”
“Hayley was known for her quick wit and constant sense of humor, she had a gift for making those around her laugh and feel welcomed,” her family wrote. “Her energy and determination were a constant in her life and she always accomplished what she set out to achieve. She treasured her friendships and nurtured strong, lasting relationships with those who knew her best.”
The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Bodybuilding career
McNeff rose to prominence in the mid-2000s, winning several competitions, including first place at the 2009 East Coast Classic. She also appeared in the bodybuilding documentary Raising The Bar and was known for her commanding stage presence.
Tributes from friends, fans, and fellow athletes have poured in. Retired bodybuilder Dave Palumbo described her as “a good soul, super intelligent and with tremendous potential as a bodybuilder,” adding, “I was proud to call her a friend.”
Long-time friend Maryann Amerault, who met McNeff at the Arnold Sports Festival, recalled their time living together in Las Vegas in 2010. She described McNeff as “extroverted, blunt, funny, and incredibly kind-hearted,” with an unmatched ability to perform a “most muscular” pose on command.
Last public appearance
McNeff’s final social media post came in May, when she shared a throwback image from 2019. Her recent posts showcased her passion for training and her continued presence in the fitness world.
She will be deeply missed by her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and the wider bodybuilding community.
