Body Of Second Teen Discovered In Connection To Birmingham Murder Case

Detectives in Birmingham investigating the murder of a 16-year-old boy have made a grim discovery – the body of a second teenager. The body was found today, next to a canal on Lighthorne Avenue, during searches conducted as part of the investigation into the shooting death of the initial victim.

The 16-year-old boy was shot at an address on Lighthorne Avenue in Ladywood last Sunday, November 5. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away in the hospital. The newly discovered body, believed to be that of a 17-year-old boy, is now linked to the murder of the 16-year-old.

Authorities have stated that, for now, they are not actively searching for any other individuals in connection to the death of the 17-year-old. Alongside the body, a gun was also found in the same area, which will undergo forensic examination.

During the ongoing murder investigation, a 17-year-old boy was arrested earlier this week. However, he remains on bail as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the initial death. It is important to note that he has not been arrested in connection with the second death.

Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards, leading the Homicide team, expressed his condolences to those affected by the tragic events of the past week. He emphasised that the investigation will continue for an extended period and that the families involved will receive ongoing support.

Local officers are maintaining a visible presence in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Detective Superintendent Edwards urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. The public has been encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 or using Live Chat, quoting log 1632 of November 5.
