Bbc Acquires Supernatural Drama “mayfair Witches” Based On Rice Novels

The BBC has announced its acquisition of the supernatural drama series “Mayfair Witches,” based on the best-selling novels by renowned author Anne Rice. The eight-part series, produced by AMC NETWORKS, will be broadcast on BBC Two and available for streaming on iPlayer.

Starring Emmy®-nominee Alexandra Daddario (“The White Lotus”), Jack Huston (“House of Gucci,” “Fargo”), Harry Hamlin (“Mad Men”), and Tongayi Chirisa (“Palm Springs,” “Antebellum”), “Mayfair Witches” is set to captivate audiences with its exploration of female empowerment and the consequences of our choices. The story revolves around Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), a gifted young neurosurgeon who discovers her supernatural abilities and unexpectedly becomes the heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must confront a malevolent force that has plagued her family for generations.

The series follows the success of “Interview with the Vampire,” another adaptation of Anne Rice’s works, which received critical acclaim and recently aired on BBC Two. Sue Deeks, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, describes “Mayfair Witches” as a darkly distinctive and atmospherically rich companion to the highly praised “Interview with the Vampire.”

The BBC secured the rights to “Mayfair Witches” from AMC NETWORKS. Esteemed show-runners Esta Spalding (“Masters of Sex,” “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”) and Michelle Ashford (“Masters of Sex,” “The Pacific,” “John Adams”) serve as executive producers alongside Mark Johnson. The series was directed by Michael Uppendahl (Episodes 1 & 2), Axelle Carolyn (Episodes 3 & 4), Haifaa al-Mansour (Episodes 5 & 6), and Alexis Ostrander (Episodes 7 & 8).

Fans of Anne Rice’s captivating storytelling and those intrigued by supernatural dramas can look forward to immersing themselves in the enchanting world of “Mayfair Witches” when it hits screens on BBC Two and iPlayer.
