Southwark Man Jailed After Stabbing Five in Beddington Warehouse Rampage
A man who stabbed five people during a violent attack at a distribution centre in south London has been jailed following his sentencing at Croydon Crown Court.
The Attack
On 23 January, Babah Sesay, 31, of Southwark, stormed a distribution warehouse in Marlowe Way, Beddington, armed with a knife.
He stabbed five men—aged in their 20s, 30s, and 50s—leaving them with serious injuries. All five victims were taken to hospital, though thankfully their injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.
Sesay fled the building but was tracked down shortly afterwards by police at a nearby fast-food restaurant. He was arrested after being treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Court Outcome
On 29 August, Sesay was sentenced after previously pleading guilty in March to 10 offences:
- Five counts of wounding with intent
- Two counts of aggravated burglary
- One count of actual bodily harm
- One count of assault by beating
- One count of possession of an offensive weapon
A charge of criminal damage was left to lie on file.
Police Statement
Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn, local policing commander for south London, praised officers and said:
“This significant jail term provides justice to the victims and highlights to the people of London that we will not tolerate violence in any form.
No one should go to work and fear for their safety.
The swift actions of our first responding officers meant no one was seriously hurt in this terrifying incident and I’d like to personally thank them again for their bravery.”
Sentencing
The court imposed a significant custodial sentence on Sesay, though police emphasised that his guilty plea had spared victims the ordeal of a trial.
The case has been described as one of the most serious workplace-related knife rampages in London in recent years.
