Protesters are arrested after attempting to enter the Queen’s Jubilee parade route ahead of Trooping the Colour.
The Metropolitan Police have arrested 12 people as demonstrators attempted to enter the ceremonial route on The Mall before Trooping the Colour today.
At around 10.10 a.m. Thursday, police hauled several people out of the way of a military band marching down the stretch near Buckingham Palace.
The video shows police detaining a small group of protesters as they approached the procession route.
According to the demonstration organisers, the pro-vegan environment and animal rights campaign group Animal Rebellion is lobbying against the dairy business.
According to the group, 25 of its followers were part in the disturbance “because to the Crown’s inaction on the climate emergency and their continuous support for meat, fishing, and dairy, all of which are major contributors to climate breakdown.”
One of those seated wore a golden crown around a cap, while the other faced the soldiers and held a piece of paper.
Another person marched ahead of the band, holding a little sign above their head that read “Reclaim Royal Land.”
As parade spectators gazed on, police officers were seen tackling protesters who had strayed onto the Mall.
Despite the disruption, the band marched on and the parade proceeded.
Animal Rebellion describes itself as a mass volunteer movement that “uses nonviolent civil disobedience to aid in the transition to a plant-based food system,” and it claims to be in solidarity with climate activists Extinction Rebellion.
The group’s protest materials call for the dairy business to be closed down, claiming that they want animal justice and action on the climate crisis.
One of those taking action, Beau King Houston, stated, “The royal family has had decades to lead the way on a just transition to plant-based farming and has failed to do so.” This shift is simple and common sense; we all win.
“76% of currently farmed land could be rewilded and used to capture carbon from the atmosphere.” All in one act, this would restore nature, save billions of creatures, and provide a solution to the climate crisis.”
Animal Rebellion coloured the fountain outside Buckingham Palace red in August 2021 in protest of the usage of Crown grounds for hunting and animal agribusiness.
A number of arrests have been made of people who attempted to enter the ceremonial path in The Mall at roughly 10.10hrs today,” the Met said on Twitter.
The arrests were for public order violations involving traffic blockage.
“Thank you to the crowd for showing their support by clapping our cops who quickly returned to their post after dealing with the issue.”
