Armed police have responded to a serious incident at the Greenwich Islamic Centre on Plumstead Road in Woolwich, Southeast London, after a person was reportedly stabbed during a prayer meeting.
The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene just after 1:30pm on Friday afternoon, with witnesses describing a sudden commotion during prayers as a man is believed to have pulled out a dagger and attacked another individual outisde the mosque.
The motive behind the stabbing remains unknown at this time. Armed officers arrived at the scene alongside emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service. A crime scene has been established and remains in place as investigations continue.
Worshippers and local residents expressed shock at the incident, which took place during what was meant to be a peaceful gathering.
