Armed Police Arrest Man in Brighton After Shotgun Threat

Armed officers were deployed to Carden Avenue, Brighton, earlier today (Monday, May 13) following reports that a man was threatening to harm himself.

Sussex Police confirmed that officers attended the scene at approximately 11:25am, where they engaged with the individual in question. A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possessing a shotgun without a licence.

He was safely taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.

Police Statement and Community Reassurance

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:

“We responded to concerns for a man’s welfare. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a shotgun without a licence and remains in custody at this time.”

The force added that there is no wider threat to the public, and that enquiries remain ongoing. Officers have reassured local residents that the situation is under control.
