Chaos on Richmond Place

Armed police were scrambled to Richmond Place, Brighton, on Sunday morning after reports of a man carrying a taser. The drama unfolded around 9.40am, bringing traffic to a halt as officers sealed off the road.

Man caught and arrested

Officers arrested a 43-year-old man from Uckfield on suspicion of possessing a firearm. The suspect was detained right in the middle of the street as armed units closed in.

No injuries, no wider threat

The tense situation was quickly controlled, with no one hurt. Sussex Police confirmed the man remains in custody as investigations continue.

“On Sunday, October 19, at around 9.40am, armed officers responded to a report of a person in possession of a taser in Richmond Place, Brighton. A 43-year-old man, from Uckfield, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He remains in police custody at this time, while police enquiries continue.” – Sussex Police spokesperson

Police reassure the public that there is no ongoing danger.
