The incident unfolded at approximately 10pm on Monday, resulting in two arrests related to the attack.
Witnesses recounted harrowing scenes as they saw a man desperately pleading for help while a large grey pitbull-type dog clamped its jaws onto his hand.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the chaotic scene on Battersea Park Road, where bystanders attempted to intervene and rescue the victim from the aggressive animal’s grip.

According to reports, the dog refused to release its hold, prompting further aggression as it turned on more people in the vicinity.
In response to the escalating danger posed by the XL Bully, armed police officers made the difficult decision to euthanize the animal, ultimately shooting it to protect public safety.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that four men, all members of the public, were injured in the attack and subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Authorities arrested a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of being the owners responsible for the dangerously out-of-control dog. Both individuals remain in custody as investigations continue.
A thorough examination of the dog will be conducted to determine its specific breed.
Reacting to the incident, Marsha de Cordova, MP for Battersea, expressed deep concern and extended sympathies to the victims. She emphasized the importance of enforcing recently enacted laws that regulate ownership of American XL Bully dogs, underlining the need for strict compliance to ensure public safety.
