An appeal for witnesses has been issued following a serious collision near Sittingbourne.

 

At 12.35pm on Friday 28 January 2022 a blue Ford Fiesta had left the Oad Street junction in Stockbury when it was involved in a collision with a white Ford Ranger travelling on the southbound carriageway of the A249 Sittingbourne Road, just past the Stockbury roundabout.

4,500 asylum claimants are suspected to have passed through safe countries in the first part of the year, with those traveling from France accounting for 60%. This figure includes those who entered via routes other than the illegal maritime journey. Well over 2,500 Channel boat migrants are thought to be inadmissible.
It comes as Defence Committee says it’s ‘unfortunate’ that the MoD declined to send a Minister, official or senior officer to its evidence session on the role of the military in countering migrant crossings. The Defence Committee was told that using Royal Navy vessels in the Channel could actually increase the number of migrants attempting to cross the Channel. Mark Francois MP said there was a danger they would be seen as a ‘taxi service’.

A woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the area and has dashcam footage to come forward.
