Aerial ladder assists in rescucing injured person in Bembridge

The Isle of Wight fire and rescue service have used an aerial ladder platform to assist in evacuating an injured person from a property in Bembridge tonight (Monday). The aerial ladder stationed at Newport was requested after ambulance crew were called to a property in Kings Road just after 9.30pm on Monday evening. A second appliance from Bembridge Fire Station also attended the incident along with paramedics and an ambulance officer from the Isle of Wight Ambulance service. Firefighters positioned the basket of the aerial ladder platform close to the top of a balcony of the property. The injured person was than manoeuvre into the basket and then slowly lower back to the ground into an awaiting ambulance for transfer to hospital. It is understood that the person had sustained neck and back injuries but due to the restricted access with the property a called for assistance was made to the fire service. Kings Road was closed during the rescue operation but has since been reopened.
