A Metropolitan Police officer is currently in hospital following an incident that occurred while arresting a suspect outside a chicken shop in Camberwell, South London. The altercation, which led to an officer sustaining an injury to his hand, happened shortly after midday on Monday, April 8, on Walworth Road, after police were alerted to a disturbance.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials detained a 22-year-old man at the scene. During the arrest, a video captured and shared with MyLondon reveals the injured hand of the police officer, bleeding from the altercation. The precise circumstances leading to the officer’s injury are still under investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Chief Inspector Mark Kent, from the Met’s Central South Command, underscored the risks officers face daily to ensure public safety, stating, “This incident highlights the danger that our officers face every day in their efforts to keep the public safe. There is no place for knives on our streets.”
He continued, emphasizing the officer’s bravery and the necessity of a safe working environment for police forces. Chief Inspector Kent also conveyed his relief that the officer is anticipated to fully recover from his injuries, although the incident once again raises concerns about the safety of law enforcement officials on duty.
