A man from Sandwich is due in court in connection with breaching a Community Protection Notice
Canterbury Man Charged with GBH After Sussex Avenue Assault

Michael Stringer, of Honfleur Road, was issued with a CPN in July 2023, forbidding him from drinking alcohol in any public space in the Dover district. The notice was issued by officers from Dover’s Community Safety Unit in response to multiple reports of drunken and anti-social behaviour, which was impacting on the quality of life of local residents and businesses.

It is alleged that, on four separate occasions between 9 December 2023 and 7 April 2024, the suspect was in a public place in Dover and was found to be in possession of an open can of alcohol; and that, on Wednesday 8 May, the suspect was attempting to urinate while in Sandwich High Street.

Mr Stringer, 41, was charged with five counts of failing to comply with a CPN and is due to appear before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 22 May.

Police Constable Ben Goff, Beat Officer for Dover town, said: ‘Breaching a Community Protection Notice is a criminal offence. Where it is suspected that a breach has occurred, we will strive to bring the subject before the courts.

‘We will continue to enforce legislation that is in place to combat anti-social behaviour, making Dover a safer place to live, work and visit.’
