The vehicle caught the attention of officers from the City Knife Crime Team on patrol in Sneinton, Nottingham, at around 11.40am on Tuesday (11 July).

Officers stopped the car in Hardstaff Road and a suspect who ran from the scene was detained by officers in nearby Shrewsbury Street.

A knife was recovered from the floor close to where the suspect was arrested.

Twenty-year-old Tobias Rhule, of Lord Street, Nottingham, has been charged with possessing a knife in a public place and using a vehicle without insurance or a licence.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (12 July) and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 5 September 2023.

Police Constable Ken Tinley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s City knife Crime Team, said: “Proactive car stops like the one used here play a key part of what we do as a team.

“It is also good example of why we always remain vigilant on patrol.

“Taking dangerous weapons off Nottingham’s streets and out of harm’s way is our primary aim as a team, so we’re pleased to have been able to do this and place a suspect before the courts.”
