A 20-year-old man has been fatally stabbed in Hackney, leaving the community in shock and mourning. The victim, known locally as LD from Pembury, was attacked on Bodney Road near Hackney Downs Park at around 6:00 PM on Tuesday, 18 February.

Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police, rushed to the scene following reports of an altercation. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple stab wounds.

Tributes From Friends and Community Members

Tributes have flooded social media, with many expressing heartbreak over the loss of a “solid guy.” One Close friend said

“LD from Pembury, rest in peace he was a solid guy ?️”

Friends and local residents have been leaving flowers and candles near the crime scene, with many still struggling to comprehend the tragedy.

The outpouring of grief highlights the deep impact LD had on his community, particularly among the youth in Hackney and surrounding areas.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that two men, aged 23 and 25, were arrested later that evening on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody as detectives from the Specialist Crime Command continue their investigation.

Detective Superintendent Vicky Tunstall, leading the investigation, said:

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this incredibly difficult time. I am grateful to the people of Hackney for their patience while we conduct our enquiries. We know this is a distressing time for residents, and they can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.”

The crime scene remains cordoned off, with forensic teams working to gather evidence.

Appeal for Information

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant footage—especially dashcam, doorbell, or mobile phone recordings from around 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM—to come forward.

“If anyone has any information — particularly dashcam, doorbell, or phone footage in Bodney Road from 17:30 hrs — I would urge them to contact us via 101 quoting 5635/17FEB. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” said Det. Supt. Tunstall.
