Two men have been arrested in connection with a reported rape in Crawley

Two men have been arrested in connection with a reported rape in Crawley. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, near Broadfield Barton.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police responded to a report of a rape of a woman in the vicinity of Broadfield Barton, Crawley, shortly after 4am on Saturday, September 21. The victim was safely located and is being supported by specialist officers at this time.”
The men, aged 30 and 31, remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
“Anyone with any information about the incident, including any relevant CCTV, mobile or dash cam footage, is urged to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 215 of 21/09,” the spokesman added.
The police have requested the public’s help in gathering evidence, particularly in the form of any available footage that may have captured the incident.
Specialist officers are working to provide ongoing support for the victim as Sussex Police ..

Man Charged with Assault, Strangulation, and Threats in West Sussex

A man has been charged with several violent offences following a series of incidents across West Sussex. Luke Maddran, 37, who has no fixed address, was arrested on 17 September in Brighton.
Officers were called to multiple reports between April and September 2024, concerning assaults and threats made against a woman in her 20s. Maddran has now been charged with actual bodily harm, controlling and coercive behaviour, non-fatal strangulation, and sending death threats via communication.
Maddran appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on 19 September and was remanded in custody. His case will be heard at Lewes Crown Court on 17 October.
Detective Sergeant Dan Bridger from the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigation Unit stated: “Our safeguarding unit is committed to protecting victims of domestic violence. We stand together to ensure safety, support, and justice for those affected.”
Thousands Conquer London to Brighton Bike Ride 2024

The London to Brighton bike ride, held on September 15, 2024, saw thousands of cyclists embark on the iconic 55-mile journey from Clapham Common to Madeira Terrace in Brighton. This year’s event was marked by perfect weather, with blue skies and sunshine accompanying the riders throughout the challenging route, which included the notorious Ditchling Beacon climb.
John Smith completed the ride in an impressive 2 hours and 45 minutes, with David Brown, finishing just 5 minutes behind the winner. Emily Johnson, crossing the finish line in 3 hours and 10 minutes with Sarah Williams, trailing by 7 minutes.
Several teams also took part this year with Team Velocity, finishing with an average time of 3 hours and 5 minutes and Pedal Power, finishing with an average time of 3 hours and 15 minutes.
The event not only showcased incredible athleticism but also raised significant funds for various charities, making it a memorable day for participants and spectators alike.
Appeal for Witnesses After 71-Year-Old Man Attacked Near Horsham

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on a 71-year-old man from Horsham, who was walking his dog in the fields off Forest Road. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on 8 September.
The victim sustained facial injuries after being attacked by an unknown man. The suspect is described as approximately 5’9″, around 60 years old, with grey hair and a full beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark clothing, a blue denim hat, and a belt with three pouches for tools. The suspect was accompanied by four Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone who witnessed the attack or the moments leading up to it to come forward. Authorities are keen to speak to anyone with information that could help identify the suspect.
