Central London was marred by scenes of violence as clashes erupted between attendees of a St George’s Day event and Metropolitan Police officers in Whitehall. Disturbing footage released by the Met depicts a group of men, some adorned in St George’s flags, engaging in altercations with law enforcement personnel.
The confrontations escalated to alarming levels, with one individual captured on video allegedly striking a police horse with an umbrella. The incident unfolded despite earlier warnings from the Met, who anticipated the presence of “far-right groups and groups linked to football clubs travelling from elsewhere in the UK” at the event.
The event is not due to start for an hour and regrettably officers are already dealing with disorder.

In a statement issued shortly after 2 pm, the Metropolitan Police underscored the gravity of the situation, revealing that disorder had already broken out despite the event not officially commencing. Authorities detailed how the group deviated from the designated event area in Richmond Terrace, proceeding up Whitehall instead.
“When officers formed a cordon and asked the group to turn round, they reacted by violently forcing their way through. Mounted officers intervened with horses to restore the cordon,” stated the Met.
