Two Men Charged Following Assaults On Brighton Beach

Brighton has been shaken by recent reports of assaults on the beach, leading to charges against two individuals. The incidents, reported by two women in their late teens, occurred on Sunday, 24 September, near the Sea Life Centre on the promenade.

A woman reported being raped in the early hours of that morning on the promenade, while another woman, of a similar age, reported a sexual assault on the nearby beach during the same time frame. The bravery of these women in coming forward has contributed to the launch of a thorough investigation, with both victims receiving support from specialist officers.

Altaib Hamed, 25, of Lewes Road in Brighton, has been charged with rape and is currently in custody. Bader Saleh, 23, of Percival Terrace in Brighton, faces charges of sexual assault and has also been remanded in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Luke Kyriakides-Yeldham commended the courage of the victims in supporting the investigation, stating that their actions have led to the apprehension of the two suspects who will now face trial. He emphasised the commitment of law enforcement and partners to maintain the safety of Brighton and Hove, ensuring it remains a secure place for women and girls while being unwelcoming to those who seek to cause harm.

DCI Kyriakides-Yeldham urged the public to report crimes or suspicious behavior during a night out and emphasised the importance of contacting police officers or security staff. In emergencies, he urged individuals to dial 999 or report incidents online or via 101.
