The distressing incident unfolded on Monday, July 17, 2023, at approximately 04:30 when police received a concern for the welfare of a woman on New Barn Lane. Upon arriving at the scene, officers tragically discovered the lifeless body of Kerry Newman. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) subsequently declared her death as suspicious, prompting a detailed investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding her tragic demise.

Kerry Newman’s grieving mother and stepfather fondly remembered her as “a loving daughter and mother of two boys, taken away from us too soon. She is now in heaven with the angels, rest in peace, our beautiful girl.” The family has requested privacy during this deeply sad and difficult time.

GMP has arrested two individuals, a 48-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, on suspicion of murder in connection with Kerry’s death. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation progresses.

Further inquiries have indicated that Kerry was taken from an address in Freehold to New Barn Lane, where she was subsequently found deceased. The exact cause of her death remains unknown.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith from GMP’s Major Incident Team expressed her sincere sympathies to Kerry’s loved ones, assuring them that the police are working tirelessly to seek justice for her.
