Emergency services rushed to Strinesdale Reservoir this afternoon following reports that a woman had got into difficulty in the water.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a rescue operation is currently underway. In a statement, the force said:
“Emergency services are currently at Strinesdale Reservoir after reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water. A rescue operation is underway.”
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) also detailed their response, confirming that two fire engines from Oldham Central and Chadderton, along with the specialist Water Incident Unit from Heywood, were dispatched to the scene.
A GMFRS spokesperson said:
“Just before 4pm this afternoon (Sunday 17th August), two fire engines from Oldham Central and Chadderton fire station, along with the Water Incident Unit from Heywood, were called to an incident on Waterworks Road, Oldham. Crews arrived quickly at the scene and have been in attendance for around an hour.”
No further details have been released at this stage, and emergency services remain at the scene this evening.
