Mason Mount, the 24-year-old midfielder, has revealed that Erik ten Hag’s vision for Manchester United convinced him to leave his boyhood club, Chelsea. Mount becomes Ten Hag’s first signing of the summer in a transfer deal worth an initial £55 million, with an additional £5 million possible in add-ons.

The England international has committed to a five-year contract with an option for a further year. Mount expressed his excitement about the seasons ahead, stating, “Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead.”

Mount acknowledged the progress Manchester United has made under Erik ten Hag, saying, “Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

Manchester United had faced resistance from Chelsea, who rejected their initial three bids for Mount. With the London club having spent £600 million last season and needing to address Financial Fair Play concerns, they were compelled to sell players. Although Chelsea preferred to keep Mount, negotiations for a new contract proved unsuccessful, as his current deal was set to expire next year.

Leaving the club where he grew up was not an easy decision for Mount, but he sees Manchester United as an exciting new challenge for the next phase of his career. Mount expressed his eagerness to join a strong squad and contribute to their pursuit of major trophies, stating, “Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.”

Since making his senior debut in 2019, Mason Mount has scored 33 goals in 195 appearances for Chelsea. However, he missed the end of the recent domestic season due to injury, coinciding with Chelsea’s lowest finish in over 25 years, coming in 12th place.

As Mount embarks on this new chapter with Manchester United, fans will anticipate his contributions to the team and his integration into Ten Hag’s plans for the upcoming seasons.
