Man pleads guilty to terrorism offences

A man charged with terrorism offences following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on Monday, 15 July. Mohammed Yamin, 25 of east London pleaded guilty to engaging in preparation of terrorist acts contrary to Section 5(1) of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006 – namely between 2 July 2013 and 10 July 2013, with the intention of committing acts of terrorism, he purchased equipment and clothing and a one-way flight ticket to facilitate the journey to Syria and his subsequent travel to Syria. He also pleaded guilty to membership of a proscribed organisation contrary to Section 11 TACT 2000, namely Al Qa’ida, between 10 July 2013 and 1 June 2014 He pleaded not guilty to possessing property – namely a gun – for terrorist purposes contrary to Section 57 TACT 2000 and this charge will lay on file. Yamin was remanded in custody for sentencing at the Old Bailey on 4 October. He was arrested by officers from the Counter Terrorism Command on 30 and charged on the following day.
