On Monday, September 19th, at 6:43pm, fire crews from the West Midlands fire and rescue service attended a fire at Zeenat Supermarket on Alum Rock Road in Saltley.
The blaze, which has spread to flats above the supermarket, is being tackled by 12 fire engines, 5 brigade response vehicles, and 2 hydraulic platforms. Firefighters are using main jets to prevent further spread of the fire and to extinguish it; during the height of the crisis, we had over 70 firefighters on the scene. Due to swift effective, and assertive firefighter crews prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties and Thornton Primary School. St Agathas Road, the Alum Rock railway bridge, Woodhall Road, Bankdale Road, Thornton Road, Washwood Heath Road, Chetwyn Road, Alum Rock Road, and Beanie Lane are all closed. people are being masked to avoid the area and that locals keep their windows and doors closed. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. There were no reported injuries during this incident.
