In a devastating turn of events, a large-scale missile attack by Russian forces has left at least 14 people injured in multiple regions across Ukraine. The assault, which targeted civilian infrastructure, has raised concerns about the escalation of the ongoing conflict.
The Ukraine General Staff issued a statement on Thursday morning confirming the missile attacks, stating, “Since the beginning of the current day, the Russian occupiers have launched a massive missile attack on the civilian infrastructure of a number of regions.”
The capital city, Kyiv, bore a significant brunt of the attacks, with Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reporting seven injuries, including a nine-year-old girl. Numerous residential and commercial buildings suffered damage during the onslaught. In central Kyiv, missile debris fell, and non-residential structures in the eastern part of the city were damaged, leading to a fire.
Sergiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, revealed that Russia launched over 20 cruise missiles against targets in the city overnight. He stated, “According to initial reports, cruise missiles of the X-101/555/55 type were launched from about 10 Tu-95MS strategic aircraft.” Popko added, “More than 20 enemy targets were destroyed by air defence forces… As a result of the downing of the missiles, debris fell in several areas of the capital.”
Reports of missile attacks and damage also emerged from several other Ukrainian regions, including Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskiy, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk.
In the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv, at least six explosions damaged civilian infrastructure, leading to two people being sent to hospitals, according to regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
In the Cherkasy region, seven people sustained injuries, and one person was rescued from beneath the rubble, as reported by Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs.
The western Lviv region saw an industrial zone being hit, resulting in building damage and a fire. However, at the time of reporting, there was no information available regarding casualties.
Air attacks were also reported in Rivne city in the region bearing the same name, with Governor Vitalii Koval mentioning the incidents, but details about the extent of the damage were not immediately provided.
