Isle of wight man disqualified for second time for drink driving

Police received a tip off that John Johnstone from Shanklin had been drinking and had driven off in his car a court heard today. Acting on the information police stop Johnstone on Hope Road and spoke with him. Officers requested a sample of breath. Failing the roadside breath test he(the driver) was subsequently arrested. Johnstone was taken to Newport Police station and he blew a reader of that was over the legal drink drive limit. Barry Arnett for Johnstone said that he was very polite and cooperated fully at the roadside and at the police station. He’s man who has a heart problems and needs to attend regular hospital appointments. He also has to look after his wife who a pensioner with health problems. He fully admits it’s his own fault he shouldn’t have been driving once he’d had a drink. The court further heard that unemployed Johnstone who lives with his partner are both on benafits. Hen also had a previous drink drive conviction that was committed in the early 90’s. Accepting his guilty plea Johnstone was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine and court costs totally £190 by Magistrates sitting at the Isle of Wight court on Friday. If Johnstone completes a drink drive course by January next year the ban will be reduced by 13 weeks.
